we provide admission to mentally
challenged children, without the distinction of caste, creed,
religion, language and community, from different parts of
Sindhudurg district and nearby areas. Our target and dream
is to train 100 mentally retarded children in the training
centre.
People of Sindhudurg district and
nearby areas are the immediate beneficiaries of Jeevdan Special
School. People from neighboring districts too will benefit
from this. Though mentally challenged children are the direct
beneficiaries of the project, persons with other disabilities
too will benefit from the services of the centre such as screening,
medical camps, awareness programs, empowerment programs. Jeevdan
functions as the pivotal centre of rehabilitation services
to persons with disabilities in the district of Sindhudurg.
As most of the parents are from
very poor economic background, we ourselves have to find out
the financial resources for the smooth running of this charitable
institution. We have not yet received any grant from the government.
But our target is to attain self-sufficiency for this training
centre in a stipulated time. Already we have started vocational
training programme for the children, like making greeting
cards, chalk, handicrafts, candle etc and this can be sold
out. We have got a qualified staff in vocational training.
Our organic products like vegetables, organic manure, variety
of fruits also can bring us some income to maintain this centre.
Nominal fee received from some of the parents also contribute
to our income. Now and then, financial help from the local
people are received on the occasions like birthdays, marriage
days and on local festivals. Notes of appreciation that appeared
in the local dailies about our Jeevdan Training Centre boosted
our enthusiasm and strength.
