Jeevdan Training Centre
 a.
Home Based Training. On holidays, (Sundays and Saturdays)
our staff, including teachers and volunteers, goes to the
houses in remote villages and train the disabled children
in their own homes. Children with severe and profound mental
retardation benefit more from this programme. Parents are
involved at most in this type of training. 72 children are
being trained at their own homes.
b. Community Based Rehabilitation
Programmes(CBR) For implementing CBR programme, first
of all we took survey and identified the disabled persons
in Sindhudurg district. Sindhudurg being a rural district,
many of them cannot come to the centre due to the less accommodation
facilities in the centre and also due to less transportation
facilities. We also visit community rehabilitation centres,
where a few children are brought together in a common place
near by their house, and train them. At present there are
6 such CBR centres and many more to be started.
c. Integrated Education:
To train the slow learners we have started special training
programs in the general schools. Our staff members go to
those schools, identify and assess them. Individual Educational
plan is made for each child.
d. Medical Camps and Awareness
Programs. We too conduct medical camps to identify the
handicapped and to give them proper treatment. Awareness
programme are arranged in different villages to motivate
parents and the community in favor of the handicapped. In
such programs mentally challenged persons perform different
cultural entertainments to show their talents. We conduct
surveys and medical camps to identify the handicapped persons.
e. Motivation Programmes
for the Youth. In order to motivate the youth with modern
techniques of farming especially the Organic Farming we
conduct periodic training programme with the help of experts
in the field. One of our staff is specially trained in this
field from the Asian Rural Institute of Japan
f. Counselling Centre
We have introduced here a counseling and guidance programme
centre for the non-disabled children, with the help of a
psychiatrist, so that these children can adjust themselves
with their brethren who are mentally challenged. We do organize,
seminars, training programs, and workshops to benefit the
handicapped ones. In the entire district of Sindhudurg,
Jeevdan is the only training centre for the mentally challenged.
