There are about 19 million disabled people in India according to the latest survey by The National Sample Survey

Organization carried out in July-December 2002. The population of the mentally disabled comprising mental

retardation, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities is estimated at 17 percent of the disabled population and

0.32percent of the total population. (Times of India, mumbai, Tuesday, April, 27,2004)

As there were requests from people to open centres for helping the mentally challenged, Sangli Mission Society

has launched different activities for the welfare of the mentally challenged persons in the Jubilee year 2000. After
